‘Rhiannon’ Named French PC Adventure of the Year

Cardigan-based computer games developer Arberth Studios announces that the French version of its game ‘Rhiannon’ has been chosen by players at French-language gaming site ‘Planète Adventure’ as their PC Adventure of the Year 2009. Rhiannon: La Malédiction des Quatre Branches’ was launched on 9th December, so only just in time to enter the nominations for the award.

Arberth’s Noel Bruton commented “We are absolutely delighted with this. We want to thank all those who have played ‘Rhiannon’ and voted for it. We particularly want to thank Les Rhemystes, the French and Belgian players who translated it – without them, this accolade would have been impossible.”

The game is the story of the modern-day haunting of a teenage girl, who has disturbing, ghostly visions soon after arriving at the secluded, run-down Welsh farmstead that her family intend to restore. The ancient Welsh legends of the Mabinogion have left a terrible curse on this place and it begins to drive Rhiannon insane. The family take her away to convalesce, leaving you to take care of the house and extensive grounds – and you find yourself drawn into defeating the ancient evil that has been taking lives for hundreds of years, Using deduction, exploration, magic and technology, you unravel the mystery along with the tragic stories of those who have preceded you.

Bruton continues, “The French version of ‘Rhiannon’ was the fourth to be launched, after English, Russian and German. In terms of gameplay, all four are identical, so the gaming experience in the UK or Germany for example, is in effect exactly the same as in France.”

The award chimes well with what other players and reviewers have said. ‘Rhiannon’ has always had good press reviews – for example it gained the coveted five star award as one of the best adventure games of the year from AdventureSpiele.net in Germany. Beyond the reviews, however, players tend to be even more enthusiastic, as witnessed by their comments at Arberth’s Amazon presences in the US, UK and Germany.

‘Rhiannon’ is available in boxed form from amazon.com, amazon.co.uk (English) and amazon.de (German), and by download in English and French from www.arberthstudios.com.
