Trade Exhibition to Foodex, Tokyo

Why Japan?
Japan, pop 125m, is the second largest economy and the third largest food importer in the world (after the USA and the EU 27). Japan relies on imports for 59% of its food on a caloric
basis. Japanese health and provenance conscious consumers set the trend for Asia and are
increasingly interested in a diverse variety of foods.

Japanese consumers demand and pay a premium for high quality food products.
In 2009 approximately 1.0% of UK Food & Drink exports (excluding alcoholic drinks ie
mainly whisky) were to Japan; similar to UK export sales to Hong Kong, and 3 times UK
export sales to Singapore.

What Welsh Products?
Research has confi rmed that opportunities exist for UK exports of quality consumer products including dairy, seafood, snack foods, confectionary, healthfoods, wine and beer, waters and other speciality and organic products (please note no UK lamb or beef products are allowed).
