Super Rod plugs into a ready market in the US
Blaenavon product pioneers Super Rod joined the US trade mission with high hopes, having had their unique labour and cost device voted ‘The Best Product Of The Last 50 years’ by UK electrical contractors. And their ambitions are already being fulfilled, with one new distributor having been appointed as a direct result, with several more firmly in the pipeline.
Over 80% of electricians in the UK now use the Super Rod, and sales throughout the world are rising sharply – notably to France, Germany, Spain, Ireland and Scandinavia. “The US is our next big target,” says the company’s MD Malcolm Duncan.
The Super Rod is a flexible, rod-based system, together with a set of attachments, that allows electricians to install wiring and cabling behind walls and in roofspaces by cutting two small holes for access and egress – and passing the wire through the cavity.
Each Super Rod will typically save an electrician three man-hours each week, and as the top of the range system costs just $200, the outlay is normally recovered inside the first week. On top of this, damage to the building fabric is minimised.
“The Super Rod has been designed by electricians for electricians and we know there’s a vast market out there,” says Malcolm Duncan. “It’s simply a question of finding the right people – which of course is easier said than done! The mission put us in front of a range of very promising potential partners, one of whom has already been appointed, and we are now following up the other discussions.”
