Generation opportunities: Existing energy plants are harnessing biomass as a means of generating extra power, and there are also many opportunities for microgeneration and CHP in civic buildings and even whole villages.
Companies: In 2011 Prenergy will open the world’s largest biomass facility in Port Talbot to burn woodchips. Western Log and Eco2’s plant in Port Talbot currently generates 13MW from burning sustainably sourced wood.
Networks: Support and research in Wales ranges from the world-renowned Centre for Alternative Technology to the Institute of Grassland and Environmental Research, and energy crop research body the Wales Biomass Centre.
